At the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, some of the most important industrial foundries were established in Krestum, directly related to the production of Altu Douro wine, and later to the production of weapons.
In the middle of the 19th century, some of these industries were transformed into other economic activities, mainly spinning, and the Augusto Cesar da Cunha Moraes cotton mill was established, adjacent to Quinta da Estrela.
